Hey, you! So nice of you to click to learn more about me, Kristina Henson.
I live in Upstate New York with my daughter, a Golden Retriever, and two cats. Before writing and illustrating my two books, One Hundred Birds Telling One Hundred Little Stories and Letters to Lily, I maintained a blog and regularly published personal essays while working in the graphic design industry by day and devoting the majority of the rest of my time doing what I love the most — writing and creating books. I love everything about books. With all that’s inside of them—the things I can learn, the places I can travel to, the characters I can fall in love with—what isn’t there to love?
I can define myself by being so many things: a mother, a daughter, a sister, an artist, an author, a designer. But most importantly—and what I remind myself of often—is that I am a woman who needs to create.
I hope you enjoy a peek into my studio and life.

Dear Diary

Dear Diary

Most of the time, Kay tried to be the best person that she could. When things were heating up in the house and getting out of control, her sisters would fight back. They would talk back, try to argue their point, and suffer the consequences and wrath. Kay preferred the nonverbal retaliation approach. One day she was in a whole bunch of trouble because she didn't clean the kitchen good enough. Her Mom screamed and threw things around the room. Kay stood in the middle of the kitchen and took it. When her mom was done with all the screaming and turned her back to leave the room, Kay flipped her the bird. Then she went to her bedroom and wrote all of the swear words she wished she said out loud into her Holly Hobby diary. She locked all the words inside with the tiny little key and quietly slipped out the back door with a box full of craft supplies and made a voodoo doll of her mother.
