Bigger Picture
It wasn't until many years and many Genesee Cream Ales later when Kay rolled up her sleeve and challenged someone to arm wrestle that the sign on the Main Street bar made sense to her. But that's a story for another time.
At any given point in your life, you don't see the bigger picture of how perfectly things are lining up for the future when you're the middle of it. Kay wanted to feel hopeful that living in this new town was going to be all right but she couldn't get past the heaviness of uncertainty. She turned and walked away from Eli, dragging her feet across the dirt driveway as if cement blocks were tied to them.
